Entryway Makeover and Reveal

It is so surreal to think that we have been in our house for a year! When we moved in, Neal was 2.5 months and now he is a full grown toddler, constantly on the move. We have already made so many memories in this house and I cannot wait to see him grow and hopefully, see our family grow one day 🙂

I remember before getting the house, I thought I will furnish and decorate it in 6 months. WHO WAS I KIDDING! 😀 We are far from done and still have a LONG WAY TO GO. Also, your girl has got some very expensive taste so it either takes time to find a nice dupe or to save money for the item I like.

Entryway makeover

We did do our entryway kinda soon (which is 7th month of getting the house! ) and it turned out SO GOOD you guys! To say that I am OBSESSED is an understatement. This was the first project that I have ever done and I cannot believe the end result.

My husband helped put the board and batten on the wall with the glue gun and then I got to work with spackle and caulking. If you have ample amount of time, it should’t take more than a weekend to get this done from start to finish. But since we had Neal and were mostly occupied during the day, it took me about a week to get it all finished since we only worked after 8 PM after he slept. #parentlife

Here are the dimensions of the wood that we got-

Bottom board- 1″ thick x 1.5″ wide

Battens- 1″ thick x 2.5″ wide

Top board- 1″ thick x 3.5″ wide

For the bottom baseboards, I did not want to remove them since this is a new build and taking that out would have been a bit too much work and I wasn’t sure if I would be able to do that really well. But I knew that just putting the battens would not look good since there will be some overhang. So, I took a 2″ wide board and put that first, above the baseboard. and then went ahead with the usual board and battens. this way, not looks seamless with the bottom board and the overhang is not that prominent since it is not visible 🙂

When it came to paint, I was honestly contemplating doing a dark color. I love the moody vibe dark color brings and there is just something about it that’s very cozy. But in the store, we started looking at the light reflective index of the colors and since we only get light in our entryway after 2 pm once the sun it on the other side of our house, we decided to go with something that had a higher number. The one we chose to go with the Sherwin Williams Krypton. It is really beautiful blue-grey color and really gives a French or Parisian vibe to the space.

For the decor, I already knew I wanted to keep it simple. I hunted for a simple minimal bench for so long and finally stumbled upon this from Crate and Barrel when it was ON SALE! ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT! Added a few plants to give it a beautiful look and some pillows from Ikea. I do want to maybe add a coat rack like this on the left side of the bench so it’s not this tropical looking entryway (LOL) but I do like it for now and I haven’t found something that I really like anyway.

Let me know what you guys think about this project and how this entryway turned out! 🙂
